Boris F. Minaev, Ph.D., professor, is the head of chemical chair, Cherkassy Engineering and Technological Institute, Ukraine.

Prof. Minaev received his B.S. and M.S. in physics from Tomsk State University in 1967. The same year he was offered a post graduate course on the chair of molecular spectroscopy and in 1974 he received his Ph.D. from this University. In 1968-1974 he worked as junior researcher at the organic chemistry department of Tomsk State University.

Since that time he worked at the Karaganda State University in Kazak Republic (assistant professor of chair of theoretical physics, the head of the chair of physical chemistry, the hear of the chair of quantum chemistry since 1984).

Prof. Minaev received a Doctor of Chemical Science degree (a senior doctoral degree in the USSR) from the Institute of Chemical Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Moscow, in 1984. An academic rank of Professor in Quantum Chemistry he received in 1986. Since 1989 he worked as the hear of chemical chair at the Cherkassy Branch of the Kiev Polytechnical Institute (Cherkassy Engineering and Technological Institute since 1991).

His research interests are in the area of quantum chemistry, especially calculations of spin-orbit coupling effects in molecular spectra and in chemical reactivity. He has studied the phosphorescence spectra of large variety of molecules including the zero field splitting properties , spin-lattice relaxation, hyperfine splitting and phosphorescent microwave double resonance phenomena on the basis of semiempirical MINDO/S CI methods. Intermolecular interaction and chemical reaction domain were also studied by the same approach resulting in explanation of some types of external heavy atom effects, new mechanisms of CIDEP and magnetic field effects on photophysical and photochemical properties of triplet molecules. The most important results are connected with optical and chemical properties of molecular oxygen.

Prof. Minaev is a coauthor of three books, published by "Nauka" ("Science"), Alma-Ata :

"The Optical and Magnetic Properties of the Triplet State", 1983;
"Quantum Electrochemistry of Alkaloids, 1986;
"The Electronic Structure of Molecules. New Aspects", 1988.

His publication's list includes more than 150 papers. Prof. Minaev worked as invited researcher in J.Heyrovsky Insitute of Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry, Prague (1979,1991), in Bonn University, Institute of Physical Chemistry (1990), in Uppsala University, Department of Quantum Chemistry (1992-1993) and in Linköping University, IFM (1993-1995). He has received a grant from the Swedish Royal Academy of Science for the project "Spin-catalysis theory" (1993-1996).

Prof. Minaev B.F. delivered lectures in quantum chemistry ( theoretical organic and inorganic chemistry ). Since 1969 year in Tomsk State University and in Karaganda State University since 1974. He has delivered lectures in theoretical organic chemistry in Bonn University in 1990 and in quantum chemistry for a post graduate students in Linköping University (IFM) in 1993 and 1995.
